  Keep Gettin Up (Q-Tip + Jesse Rose + Stevie Wonder + many more) 

  

  This sample-heavy tune is a little different from what we’ve posted thus far. Been thinking about the early Prince Paul school of production a lot lately, where he’d layer a lot familiar samples for his tracks; a step up in complexity from most hip hop productions, while a step below all out “cut-and-paste” craziness….the clear (and lost) ancestor to the “mashup” but with a lot more class.

  The samples for this one vary from Q-Tip (by way of Black Ivory) to Jesse Rose to Keni Burke to Ray Barretto covering Stevie Wonder, with a few other for good measure…..

  Nicki Minaj meets The Outfield 

  

  Nicki Minaj stayed true to her last name by playing matchmaker and deal-sealer between two songs that otherwise never would have crossed our minds to merge: Annie Lennox’s “No More ‘I Love You’s” with The Outfield’s “Your Love” (though the Nicki & Outfield connection couldn’t be more obvious!). We chop the vocals up, making it more like a party break than a blend, and in the end, one can’t deny that as a bottle service set starter, it hits all its marks…..

  The Police + Outkast + High Contrast!!!!! 

  

  The Police catalog is much cooler than this song but it’s still a hard one to front on (ayo). The double time swinging hook is a little too pop friendly for my taste though, so we went the 90s-rap route with the bassline, echoed away all the love talk and were left with a life-affirming mantra as its replacement.
