Recently, DJ Hipnotikk & The Freak Beat linked up after realizing that their convergent styles were bound to intersect at some point, and for the simple fact that the homie ZONE3 had a vision, and Hipnotikk had the skills to put it to tape. What emerged is an hour-length audio file that goes beyond just Dubstep, but takes all genres and classic jams from across the musical spectrum and turns them to chest-testing basslines. The result is a new type of classic – and it’s testament to the fact that the evolution of music can’t be stopped. In all reality, this is a THUGSTEP mix, and could very well be called Dirty South Thugstep Vol 5, but what’s a name in a world of music?
The point of this mix is to show the versatility of Dubstep as a genre, rather than the crawl into one of the many niche’s available. As the genre expands, it seems to many DJs are respectively narrowing their field of vision. Why? Who knows. We are not them, and this is not your average Dubstep mix. This is Thugstep, but more importantly, this is DUBSTEP UNCOVERED:

Diplo & Lil Jon – “U Don’t Like Me” [HOODLUM Refixes]
Three of the finest THUGSTEP refixers, DJs Nappy, Cable and Hipnotikk, have combined their efforts and created the collective known as HOODLUM. Their first line of business? Introducing you guys to the business end of real THUGSTEP refixing, and what better tune to showcase this than the recent Diplo & Lil’ Jon collaboration, “U Don’t Like Me”. Each DJ molds this track into their own singular anthems, and there’s even a remix of the original instrumental featuring MCs Chose and RTKal. This EP is sure to be the next level of a movement that’s been buzzing since late 2006, and is the first brick in the foundation that HOODLUM is building.
