It’s not just familiar – my buddy played ‘Alejandro’ for me for the first time this evening. I didn’t know what it was and immediately exclaimed that, “finally someone has made a GOOD remix on an Ace of Base song that DOESN’T sound like europop dance crap! Who is this?” When he said “Lady Gaga” I nearly dropped my drink… Hope she doesn’t end up with too much of a fight… If she WAS inspired by Ace of Base, good on her. Honestly, I think that she is close enough in age to myself that she may have been purposefully trying to capture the essence of that song to invoke a certain emotional response. REALLY hope that’s the case. Love my some Lady Gaga and don’t want to see her in a legal battle!

Well Im a song writer, I try write for the charts. Ace Of Base were back in the day as Massive influence to me as their music is credible pop and self penned. Someone was at a Lady Gaga concert in Sweden and returned home telling me she saying she appauled ABBA to the Chrowd but said Ace of base were still the shit to her! So she obviously did like them. Then I also heard that The Fame Monsters tracks are all tributes to artists who inspired her…some songs are like Beyonce, Bowie, Queen and Ace of base!!
I really like her take on Ace Of Base its done excellently and so perfect that its almost like Ace Of Base wrote it, Im sure they’d approve and enjoy the fact that their songs are now at the “classic” stage and becoming alive again from the kids they inspired, just like me!

I definitely hear the Ace of Base similarities on “Alejandro,” but I also a lot of Abba, which Ace of Base was inspired by. It’s like a chain of people and influences. At the same time, “Alejandro” is similar to Madonna’s “Isla Bonita.” To me, “Alejandro” has more of a New Wave sound to it than Ace of Base’s music, but still very similar. I can definitely hear the influence.

OMG I just saw Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” performance on American Idol. Instantly I thought of ACE fo Base AND Madonna’s “Isla Bonita”.

Funny how things evolve – Don’t turn around was originally a Tina Turner B-side – British reggae group Aswad covered it, then did the production for Ace of Base when they covered it, now Lady Gaga has a song that obviously draws *inspiration* from .
